1. The Andalusian coast

Start your journey in the lively city of Malaga, where you’ll find beaches, a great selection of bars and restaurants, the famous Alcazaba fortress and the Picasso Museum.
Once you’ve explored, head east along the Costa del Sol, stopping at the charming towns of Nerja, where you can take some amazing photos from the Balcon de Europa viewpoint overlooking the sea. The Nerja caves are well worth a visit while you’re here. The stalactites and stalagmites hang and cling dramatically to the cave walls, along with fascinating rock formations and ancient artefacts.
When you’re ready for a little solitude, continue towards Almeria and the jaw-dropping scenery of the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park that runs along the coast. Here you’ll find wild and arid landscapes, secluded beaches and dramatic cliffs. You can swim, snorkel, walk and generally relax, enjoying van life.

Look for designated camper van areas (áreas de autocaravanas) along the coast, especially near larger towns and natural parks. You can park your motor home at these and authorised campsites. Wild camping is not permitted in Spain.
2. The Pyrenean Peaks
The Spanish Pyrenees offer a stunning alternative to the coast, with dramatic mountain ranges and unspoilt nature to explore. Travelling this route is better in early or late summer, when you’ll experience ideal driving conditions for a motor home.
