Primark is renowned on the high street for releasing products that look strikingly similar to their designer originals, and a body spray that has returned to shelves is no exception. TikToker Sinead Baldev, known for her product review posts, hailed that "Primark has done it again" with their Sol de Janeiro scent replicas—you can snap up all four varieties for less than the cost of one 90ml bottle of the genuine fragrance.
Sinead recounted her initial difficulty in obtaining the scents as they were impossible to find in any Primark shop after "going viral on TikTok" and being "sold out" everywhere. That made it all the more exciting for her to finally secure them and try them out for herself.
She revealed that she scored the 100ml versions of the sprays at £3.50 apiece, but pointed out that in some Primark stores, you can also pick up "tiny little bottles" for £2—ideal for travel.
First, she presented a rival for Sol de Janeiro's Carioca Crush Perfume Mist, dubbed 'Bali Blush' by Primark, replete with packaging reminiscent of the name-brand original.
After spraying the Sol de Janeiro mist and describing it as "stunning," she tested the Primark counterpart to compare the two.
The TikToker remarked on the remarkable similarity between the aromas, noting that the Sol de Janeiro's scent was a "little bit stronger," which was to be expected given the price difference. "I'm shook," Sinead confessed.
Then, she sprayed Sol de Janeiro Beijos De Sol, comparing it to Primark's 'Fiji Fiesta'. "Primark, come to the front, because why am I spending £28 on this? £3.50. £3.50! They smell the same," she gushed.
Sinead then said that some people don't find the Sol de Janeiro sprays last that long because "they're only body sprays".
However, she said: "On me, they actually last. I can smell mine on my clothes the next day," which could be a reason for some to splash the cash on the originals.
She then compared the Sol de Janeiro 59 to Primark's 'Capri Coast'. "I don't feel like they're as strong, but they smell the same," she shared about the Primark sprays.
Next up was arguably Sol de Janeiro's most famous and popular spray, number 62, compared with Primark's 'Santorini Sunset'. Again, she said it wasn't as strong, "but it does smell like it".
"If I smelled any of these in the shop, I would know that they were Sol dupes. Primark has done it [...] "If you do not have them, I am going to tell you to run and do not walk," she said.
Sinead said that even if they "did not last" she would not "give a damn for the sake of £3.50," as you can just respray them to your heart's content while you're lounging by the pool this summer.
Those considering buying 'dupes' may want to try doing your research before buying them, and working out whether purchasing the original product might be worth it for you.
