Stupidest reason to justify criminal acts, IMHO. Ranks right up there with storming an abortion clinic, terrorizing staff, patients and others because your religion commands you.

All the current signs point to the late 1930's.

I knew a guy (now deceased) who moved large amounts of LSD over the dark web while Silk Road was active and for a few years afterward. He would purchase it in crystalline form by the gram to dose down to 100 micrograms. So 1 gram is good for 10,000 doses.
And this guy was charged for conspiracy to distribute over 10 grams? If this is his religion, he's starting a mega-church.

In the lawsuit, Riester's attorneys said he has a sincerely held belief that LSD is a sacrament, which allows him to commune with God and is "necessary for his continued spiritual growth and development."
I took a bunch of acid and shrooms in the early 2000s, and only saw some weird shapes and trees which at one point my friend explained to me was a telephone pole... but did serve as a groomsman at his wedding coming down after eating a bunch of shrooms. Happy when it ended and that I wasn't asked to give a speech.
He "also believes Bitcoin to be sacred,"
Oh, fark off.

You can do drugs if you want to. Most states won't even charge you for having personal use quantities anymore. Schedule I drugs excluded, of course.
But guess what, Private? Your employer absolutely can stop you from: selling it, distributing it, using it on the job, particularly if it involves safety concerns, and it doesn't matter how religious you are.
You're going to have to go be sincerely spiritual on your own time.

That's what I was thinking. For a period of time, I used a LOT of that substance, but I didn't have any religious experiences on it. I had a lot of fun, though. Wouldn't be the least bit interested in indulging these days, done there, been that.

Our own CIA introduced LSD to America, at the time buying up every existing dose from Sandoz Labs.

I knew a guy in HS who always smoked lot of weed and a couple of years after HS became a cocaine dealer which led to several drive by shootings on his house. He fled all of that and joined the Navy and made a career of it.
I saw him by chance 4-5 years later and said, I guess you had to give up all of the drugs because of Reagan's drug testing requirements. He said, yep, all of the drugs that they could test for. So he and his new friends in the Navy stuck with LSD.
