Steak ‘n Shake will begin accepting bitcoin as payment starting May 16 at 393 U.S. locations. The company will start with bitcoin payment integration in the United States, but it may expand the rollout to international locations at to-be-determined dates.
“Steak n Shake accepting Bitcoin payments at all locations starting May 16, making the cryptocurrency available to our more than 100 million customers. The movement is just beginning,” the company posted from its official X account, signing the post as “Steaktoshi,” a nod to Bitcoin’s anonymous creator Satoshi Nakamoto.
Steak ‘n Shake COO Dan Edwards confirmed the news with Cointelegraph, saying, “Our goal is to utilize Bitcoin at all locations, including all international units. Each country will announce its own launch date.”
The company added a bitcoin logo to its website following the announcement and an message that it would accept bitcoin “starting May 16, 2025 at all locations.”
The news follows a series of social media teasers about bitcoin from the company, including an AI-generated image of starship emblazoned with the Bitcoin logo and “beef tallow,” an advertisement of the company’s shift to using beef tallow for all fried foods.
