Wolverhampton Wanderers have been credited with an interest in forward Nicolas Pepe - two years after he saw his contract terminated by Premier League counterparts Arsenal. Ivory Coast international Pepe, 29, was once the Gunners' record signing when he cost £72m in 2019.
Pepe, who was playing and impressing for Lille when Arsenal came calling almost six years ago, saw the final year of his five-year contract cancelled in the summer of 2023 and that freed the attacker up to join Trabzonspor on a short-term deal.
He only stayed in Turkey for a single year, though, before Pepe made for Spain and joined Villarreal. He has played 24 league games for the club in La Liga this season and scored in Saturday's dramatic 4-2 win over Osasuna.
Having signed a two-year deal, Pepe has another season ahead of him in Castellon, but reports suggest that they could agree a severance package which frees up salary on their wage-bill and allows Pepe to move on as a free agent. Reports abroad claim that Wolves, and Everton, could hand him a second crack at English football.
There are also likely opportunities to be presented to Pepe from the Saudi Pro League, who continue to try their best to attract names from Europe - Wolves felt the effects of those efforts themselves, having parted with captain Ruben Neves in the summer of 2023.
For Wolves, another big summer awaits; the loan spells of Carlos Forbs and Jorgen Strand Larsen end, while the contracts of Nelson Semedo, Pablo Sarabia and Craig Dawson are all due to expire.
